Texas State Fair 2012

I was excited this year for Luke to meet Big Tex! I day dreamed about the day we would get to take Luke to the fair! When I was pregnant I would estimate how old Luke would be when we would take him. I romanticized in my head a picture of Fred and I holding Luke with Big Tex in the background...

And then what happens? The day before we decide to go to the fair... BIG TEX BURNS DOWN!!! Oh just my luck! Well our day at the fair was not ruined, it was actually pretty humorous being there the day after Big Tex passed. The news reporters were there, there was a memorial set up for Tex with flowers, people were sad, it was pretty absurd. But then we thought, I guess to these Texans the icon of Big Tex burning down would be the equivalent as if the Disneyland castle in California burnt down or if Mickey Mouse caught on fire from the fireworks shooting out of his fingers during a Fantasmic show! Tragic! I think that would make me cry! So then I had a little compassion afterwards as a shoved my face with fried green tomatoes!  Here is Luke posing as Big Tex where he once stood.

It was fun going with the Hilton's, they are great! We even combined our left over tickets to get a lemonade and drank it from the same straw, gross, but we're like fam! We also made a bet on how many compliments Luke was going to get on his hair, I think he ended up getting like 14! I'm glad we got to share Luke's first time there with them!

At one of the booths where they sell all the crap you don't need I convinced Fred to buy me a whisk! Yes a whisk... Out of all the cool useless stuff they sell I choose a whisk? I guess it was super cool at that moment, she sold us when she made froth out of milk in like 60 seconds tipped the cup upside down and the froth didn't fall out! Amazing right??? I think we got caught up in the moment and Selina and I walked away with our magic whisks at hand and even bought one for Fred's mom! Now Selina and I both agree they don't even work that great!

My favorite part of the day was riding the ferris wheel! Did you know its the tallest ferris wheel in the U.S.A! Everything is bigger in Texas, even Luke! Every year Fred and I have been on together we have to share the gondola with complete strangers but this year we didn't and got to go on with our faves! The Lord is great, blessed us with a beautiful view of a Texas sunset while we were high in the sky! The little one was sleeping and ended up waking up just in time to snag a picture of him!

With sore feet and hungry stomachs we ended the night at Deep Ellum to eat Cane Rosso! I've been on a Neapolitan style pizza kick for days since Pizzeria Testa opened so it was the perfect spot! Cane Rosso was featured in Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives with Guy Fieri so I was super excited to try it! It lived up to the hype! I had the Delia with fresh mozzarella, grape tomatoes, spicy bacon marmalade and arugula, gahhh, my mouth is watering this very second! I need to go back! And when I say "I had.." I mean I ordered that pizza for myself! Oh and having Uncle Nick there paid off! We got a discount because he's a Dallas Firefighter! Luke also received the best compliment of the day by a group of ladies, they said "His hair says 'I'm a stud' his cheeks say 'I'm a baby!'" cracked me up! Luke sure is the babe magnet!

Well that was our super fun Luke's first Dallas day! Love all these memories we are making as a family, I'm one blessed mommy!

Happy 3 Month Luke!

My big guy turned 3 months this September 25th! I can't believe its only been 3 months but at the same time I feel like "he's already 3 months?!?" It's been a crazy fun exciting month. This month we kind of put on hold my role as a stay at home to help our friends open up their restaurant. I only worked a couple evenings a week and Luke got to spend lots of time with his abuelitos! He was such a trooper and behaved very well with them, making mama very proud! Being a working mommy definitely made me appreciate my time at home with Luke so much more. Now that I am done working I feel like I can manage my time and home without having to worry about getting Luke ready to go, making sure I'm pumping enough milk, dropping him off, picking him up... Now Luke can have me 24/7, well except for those date nights that mommy and daddy need to catch up on movies and popcorn!

This month Luke...

  • This month I have no idea how much Luke weighs but I'm sure he's gained a couple of pounds because he wears my arms out and just look at those legs and cheeks! Im still nursing him and I think that really helped me get back to my normal weight this month. Fred said Luke gained all the pounds I lost, very true!

  • He is barely fitting into size 2 diapers, Im sure he'd fit perfect in 3s but I still have a few packs of size 2 diapers left. Thanks to our amazing friends and family who bought us diapers for our gender reveal party we haven't had to buy diapers since Luke was born except for a few newborn packs!

  • This month Luke started to show his smile to the world! He's very responsive when you interact with him, he's full of goohs gahs and smiles, such a sweetheart! Once in a while I hear sweet chuckles out of no where!

  • He holds his head up pretty good when I carry him. He can sit fine in his bumbo seat! sometimes when were sitting on the couch we'll sit him up with us and he just likes to chill like a big kid!

  • He also discovered his hands! No he doesn't put his fingers in his hands, this kid shoves his whole fist in there and eats it like a big mac!

  • I busted out the bibs this month because he's been extremely drooly! Before I put bibs on he was wetting his whole chest from the drool! I don't know if its because his putting his hands in his mouth or if he might be teething, i think its kinda early for teeth, but with this big kid you never know!

  • Speaking of big... Officially out of 0-3month clothes, fits perfectly into 6month, gets by wearing 9month and last sunday I put a 12month shirt on him! He needs pj's, the ones he's wearing now are 9 months, when I went shopping for him it felt so wrong looking for 12 month pjs for my 3 month old! Lol!

  • We're not really on a schedule but at night he usually wakes up twice to eat, during the day he's pretty awake and then takes about 4-5 solid naps through out the day. I'm getting better at reading him and knowing when he's ready for a nap. My sweet guy will start to fuss, then all I do is swaddle him up put him in his crib while his awake and he falls asleep on his own. He doesn't like to sleep in my arms anymore which makes me kinda sad :( but at the same time happy because it gives me time to get stuff done!

Luke is such a great baby, makes it too easy for mommy, seriously the only time he fusses is when he's hungry, tired, needs a change or just wants some cuddles. Im so blessed by my little chunker who keeps me busy but happy all day. I love you Lukey!

Happy 2 Months Luke!

Oh my how this little guy grown! I have always heard other parents say, "they grow up so fast," and I didn't know exactly what they meant until now! I go back and look at the pictures of him in the hospital and he was so teeny tiny! And now he is 2 months old! And guess what, he's growing up so fast!!! At his 2 month doctor's visit he was in the 80th percentile weighing 13lbs 7oz, and 90th percentile measuring 24 inches!

This is what Luke has accomplished this month!

  • Luke smiles! At first it was not a full on ear to ear smile, but I would talk to him in my mommy voice and you would see his little eyes just brighten up with a little toothless grin! It's the sweetest sight! The other day Fred came home late from work because he had back to school night and as soon as Luke heard Fred's voice and saw his face Luke lit up like a Christmas tree! I hadn't seen him that happy all day! You could really tell Luke was ecstatic to see daddy! Fred and I were almost in tears to see him so happy to see daddy! I think it's been one of the sweetest moments we have shared as a family next to the moment we met him!

  •  Luke talks! Ok he's not using real words but me and him will sit there and chat all day! I talk to him and he responds with his sweet coos! I never knew a simple "ah-gooh" could melt my heart! I soak every little one up!

  • Luke poops! He was wearing size 1 diapers and just moved up to 2's! He's about to outgrow 0-3 months clothes and fits perfectly into 3-6 month clothing! This kid amazes me, he is so big! All the clothes he is fitting into now I had estimated he would be wearing during Christmas season when I bought it!

  • Luke loves his baths! We give him a bath about 3 times a week. He gets all these fuzzies in between his fingers and toes! Not cute Luke! If he is being fuzzy a warm bath calms him down!

  • Luke eats a lot! I haven't really had him on a schedule but he's been eating every 2-3 hours, These last few days I just started getting strict on holding him off until its been 3 hours and he does pretty well.

  • Luke sleeps! Not as much as I wish he would during the night he wakes up 2- 3 times, feeds around 11pm then if I'm lucky doesn't wake up till around 3am and then 7am but sometimes he likes to spend time with me and wakes me up to squeeze in an extra feed.

  • Luke holds his head up high! He's gotten pretty good! Sometimes he looks like a little wobble head figure but he's got the hang of it!

This is what Luke's been up to this month:

We visited mommy's favorite fall festival! Grapevine's GrapeFest!

We went to Luke's first Frisco Roughrider's game! Daddy caught a t-shirt with his glove!

Luke at me grow!
